AI tools for startup founders

Staying up to date with everything new that pops up in the AI market can be difficult. It seems that a “game-changing” AI tool is launched every three seconds. For founders and operators, it’s incredibly easy to fall victim to “AI FOMO” — an anxiety that if you aren't adopting every new wrapper, copilot, or generative agent, your startup is going to be out-innovated and risk falling behind. At this point, finding the tools is easy; what is difficult is actually choosing the right ones for specific processes of your company and building a productivity stack that supports its goals.

This article is not a comprehensive list of every AI tool on the market. Instead, it’s a framework that is supposed to help you filter out all the noise and actually build a practical stack for your own workflow. We believe getting the most out of AI for your company isn’t about adopting AI everywhere, but about applying it where it meaningfully reduces cognitive load, compresses iteration cycles, or unlocks capabilities you couldn’t justify hiring for yet.

Given this, we’ve broken the startup workflow into key stages and, for each, highlighted tools that can automate or offload necessary but low-leverage tasks. If you have tools that have worked well in your stack, or think we’ve missed something important, drop me a line.

General-purpose AI copilots

Gemini

Google’s AI copilot for research, document drafting, spreadsheet analysis, coding, and meeting workflows. Its biggest advantage is deep integration with Google Workspace, alongside tools like NotebookLM and Gemini’s image-generation features for multimodal research and creative work.

Claude

One of the most widely used AI assistants for writing, coding, research, and workflow support. Particularly valued for its strong long-context capabilities, structured reasoning, and ability to work with large documents and complex tasks.

Copilot

Microsoft’s AI assistant is embedded across Windows, Microsoft 365, Teams, Edge, and developer tools. Designed for both personal and enterprise use, it helps users draft documents, summarize meetings, analyze spreadsheets, and automate workflows through natural language.

ChatGPT

Built on insights from experienced VC managers, it analyzes your slides for missing metrics, unclear storytelling, weak positioning, and potential red flags, giving you actionable feedback so you can refine your narrative before the real pitch.

How to use it:

  1. Create a Startup account on the Vestbee platform
  2. Fill in all the information about your company
  3. Once your profile is complete, go to the “AI Deck Analyzer” panel and review your pitch deck
  4. The Chat feature allows you to ask additional questions and test new ideas

Alai

Alai is an AI presentation tool that generates slide decks and provides multiple layout options per slide instead of a single fixed design. It maintains context across the full deck to keep formatting and structure consistent during edits. It reduces manual design work while allowing user control over layout choices, though it has limited integrations and a smaller template library.

Gamma

AI tool for creating documents and presentation-style decks optimized for scroll-based viewing and asynchronous sharing. It is commonly used for materials like internal reports or investor updates. The output format is less suited to live presentations but works well for sharing content directly. It includes AI-assisted editing through a chat interface and offers a relatively broad free tier. Beyond decks, it can also generate other visual content such as simple web pages, mockups, and social media assets.

Plus AI

AI add-on for Google Slides and PowerPoint that generates and edits presentations within existing office tools. It is designed to integrate directly with Google Workspace, allowing users to create and modify slides without switching platforms. AI automation and workflow orchestration

Zapier

A no-code automation platform that connects different software applications through predefined triggers and actions. It enables users to build automated workflows (commonly described as “if this, then that” sequences) that move data between tools, update records, or send notifications without custom code. The platform is primarily used to reduce repetitive manual work across SaaS systems by linking otherwise disconnected applications.

n8n

A workflow automation tool that uses a node-based interface to connect applications and services. It allows users to build multi-step automations with more flexibility than traditional no-code tools, including support for custom logic and code execution. Unlike fully hosted platforms, it can be self-hosted, giving teams control over infrastructure and data handling.

Manus
