Rome-based ocean tech startup WSense, specializing in underwater wireless monitoring and communication systems, has secured a €10 million pre-Series B funding round, bringing its total funding to over €25 million, as Vestbee was told.
- Launched in 2017 by Chiara Petrioli, WSense specializes in underwater monitoring and communication systems. The company develops technologies that form the backbone of the Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT), enabling secure, real-time wireless communication between submerged sensors and autonomous underwater vehicles.
- Its platform uses mesh multi-hop networking to ensure interoperability among devices from different vendors, supporting continuous monitoring of marine environments, critical infrastructure, energy installations, and ports.
- WSense’s systems collect and transmit high-density ocean data, allowing long-term surveillance and analysis of seabeds, waterways, and offshore operations.
Details of the deal
- The Pre-Series B was led by Indico Capital Partners and SIMEST, with the support of existing investors including CDP Venture Capital SGR, Blue Ocean by SWEN, RunwayFBU, Axon Partners Group, Fincantieri, and Rypples.
“Wsense is a great example of Italy’s deep tech capabilities and the opportunities emerging in ocean-related technologies. As a dual-use technology company with strong industrial partners and a clear growth trajectory, Wsense is well-positioned for the next stage of development. We are delighted to support this new phase of growth and look forward to working closely with the Wsense team," claims Stephan de Moraes, Managing General Partner at Indico Capital Partners.
- WSense will use the fresh capital to advance its underwater wireless technologies, expand international operations, and develop solutions for energy transition, infrastructure security, and ocean protection, while enhancing research on adaptive networks for multi-vendor sensors and autonomous underwater vehicles.
“The entry of new investors such as Indico Capital Partners and SIMEST represents a strong recognition of the value of our technology and our international growth strategy. With the completion of this round, bringing WSense’s total funding to over €25 million — and thanks to the support of leading industrial and financial partners," CEO of WSense, Chiara Petrioli, commented in a press release.
