UK edtech firm Medly AI lands $8M to expand AI-powered tutoring

London-based startup Medly AI has raised $8 million in a seed funding round led by Felix Capital, with participation from Eka Ventures and Ada Ventures, alongside angel investors, as Vestbee was informed.

  • Founded by Dr. Paul Jung and Dr. Kavi Samra, Medly AI develops an AI-powered tutoring platform designed to provide personalized support for students preparing for exams.
  • The platform uses a combination of seven large language models (LLMs) to adapt tutoring to individual students, tracking their progress, identifying learning patterns, and adjusting feedback based on their needs.
  • Medly provides instant feedback on practice questions and guidance on how students can improve their answers. Its features include handwriting recognition, allowing students to write directly on the platform using tablets or styluses, particularly for subjects such as mathematics and chemistry.
  • The company initially launched in February 2025 and has since grown its UK user base by nearly 600%, reaching more than 400,000 users. Students using the platform for GCSE preparation last summer saw notable improvements, with 74% improving by at least one grade and 41% improving by two or more grades.
  • Medly supports students preparing for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, and International Baccalaureate exams, as well as university students through its curriculum-agnostic Medly Open product.

Details of the deal

  • Medly plans to expand its student community in the UK, enter additional international markets, and further develop its AI tutoring technology and proprietary models for marking and pedagogy. The company has already launched SAT preparation in the US and plans to add AP and ACT preparation by the end of 2026.
  • It will also use the funding to advance research into the platform’s marking and learning outcomes, including a recently completed randomized controlled trial involving more than 1,000 UK students.

“We are particularly excited by Medly’s mission and track record to provide effective exam prep, powered by AI, to hundreds of thousands of young people We are also deeply touched by Paul and Kavi’s personal stories, as well as impressed by their ability to build and scale Medly to a meaningful platform in such a short period of time," explains Angela Chou, Investor at Felix Capital.
