Vienna-based firm fonio.ai secures €3M to expand AI customer communication platform

Vienna-based AI startup fonio.ai has raised a €3 million financing round from 13 selected European angel investors, including Daniel Gutenberg, Christian Stieber, Robert Wuttke, Jens Lapinski, and an unnamed Sequoia Scout, as Vestbee was told.

  • Launched in 2024 by Daniel Keinrath and Matthias Gruber, fonio.ai offers an AI-powered call assistant that automates business phone communication.
  • The platform handles calls, transcribes conversations, schedules appointments, processes orders, and manages customer service, integrating with CRMs and calendars. Data is stored on GDPR-compliant servers in Germany, using large language models hosted in Europe.
  • The company serves nearly 4,000 customers in the DACH region, automates around 800,000 calls per month, operates profitably with a team of twelve, and generates just under €300,000 in monthly revenue, aiming for €1 million by June 2026.

“The strong demand from angel investors shows that we are solving a real market problem that has challenged companies and their customers for years. The way phone-based customer communication works today belongs to a different era. We are developing technology that modernizes this process at its core and enables companies to be faster, more efficient, and more human in the way they stay reachable," claims Daniel Keinrath, CEO and co-founder of fonio.ai.

Details of the deal

  • fonio.ai will use the €3 million funding to advance its AI technology for customer communication, expand from a voice-only solution to a full omnichannel platform (including email and chat), and accelerate its growth into additional European markets.
