UK's femtech firm Emm secures $9M for smart menstrual health solution

Bristol-based femtech firm Emm, which develops a smart menstrual cup that tracks and analyses the menstrual cycle, has secured $9 million in a seed funding round led by Lunar Ventures, with additional participation from the Labcorp Venture Fund, Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company, Blue Lion, and Alumni Ventures.

  • Established in 2020 by Jenny Button, Emm is developing the world’s first smart menstrual cup. The device combines medical-grade silicone with integrated biosensors to measure menstrual flow, cup usage, and cycle patterns.
  • Data is automatically collected by the cup and synced to a connected app via a charging case, enabling users to track daily flow rates, total period volume, and cycle regularity.
  • The system provides personalized insights over time, helping users understand their menstrual health, optimize cup usage, and identify changes in their cycle. The cup is designed for all-day comfort, leak protection, and low-energy connectivity, with data transmission occurring only when the device is outside the body and connected to the charging case.

  • Emm plans to use the fresh funding to accelerate clinical development, strengthen its data infrastructure, and bring its smart menstrual cup and connected app to consumers in 2026, while also supporting further research, product development, and insights into reproductive and menstrual health.

"This moment belongs not only to our team and investors, but to everyone who has supported and believed in our mission. To our community – thank you. We’ll keep pushing, learning and building, because the world is ready for smarter, better, more personalised menstrual care – and we’re proud to lead the way," Emm's team, commented on LinkedIn.
