Düsseldorf-based semiconductor startup Ubitium, which develops a universal processor for Physical AI, has raised $14 million in a seed funding round led by Ibex Investors, with participation from OpenOcean, Florian Seibel, and existing investors Runa Capital, KBC Focus Fund, and Inflection.
- Founded in 2024 by Hyun Shin Cho and Martin Vorbach, Ubitium develops a reconfigurable RISC-V processor designed to combine signal processing, AI inference, and real-time control on a single chip, replacing the multiple specialised processors typically used in autonomous machines.
- The company's first chip, the UB108, has demonstrated all three computing functions running on the same reconfigurable array. Manufactured using Samsung's 8nm process, the chip contains 256 processing elements.
Details of the deal
- The latest investment brings Ubitium's total seed funding to $18 million. The firm plans to bring its first commercial processor, the UB410, featuring 4,096 processing elements, to market, with evaluation units expected in 2027.
“When we first invested, Ubitium’s universal processor was a bold bet. First silicon in a single year turned that bet into proof. We’re proud to keep backing the team, and we look forward to working with Ibex Investors and OpenOcean as Ubitium brings one processor for Physical AI to market," explains Rudi Severijns, Investment Director at KBC Focus Fund.
