Kyiv-based Osavul raises €2.78M to introduce information security technologies into the business sector

Kyiv and Delaware-based AI-powered media intelligence firm Osavul, which specializes in information environment assessment, has raised €2.78 million in a late seed round to introduce information security technologies into the business sector. The funding round was led by 42CAP, u.ventures, and SMRK.

  • Founded in 2022 by Dmytro Pleshakov and Dmytro Bilash, Osavul is a media intelligence company that uses AI to analyze and counter disinformation.
  • The startup's platform evaluates information from text, video, and audio across various digital channels to identify and combat false narratives. Trusted by the EU Commission and NATO, Osavul has established itself as a key player in tackling propaganda and information warfare.

“AI's influence in narrative attacks is particularly concerning, as it can be used to shape public opinion through misinformation. Osavul applied AI specifically to detect and address these sophisticated narrative attacks, ensuring a more resilient informational ecosystem," Co-founder and CEO of Osavul, Dmytro Plieshakov, stated in a statement.

  • Last year, Osavul raised $1 million in a seed round led by SMRK Venture Fund to include Large Language Models, strengthen its information environment analysis capabilities, and expand its platform.

Details of the deal

  • The investment was supported by 42CAP, a Munich-based venture capital firm that backs seed-stage tech startups across Europe with global ambitions;  u.ventures, a Chicago-based VC specializing in early-stage technology companies with global growth potential; and SMRK, a Ukrainian fund that invests in IT startups at various stages, with a focus on Seed and Series A rounds.

“Osavul is already the industry-leading startup in the EU in its sector, it is driven to scale its opportunities to the US market and offer new opportunities for the business sector. So it is a perfect match for us as the fund specializes in seeding the next generation of tech and data-driven B2B software companies across Europe, with a sharp focus on those poised for international success," General Partner at 42CAP, Alex Meyer, stated in a press release.

  • The capital raised will enable Osavul to scale its operations internationally, enhance its AI algorithms, accelerate its outreach, and offer new opportunities for the B2B segment.

"This significant investment empowers us to expand our tech experience and initiatives designed to make the digital world a safer and more trustworthy space for everyone," Co-founder and CEO of Osavul, Dmytro Plieshakov, commented in a statement.
