Barcelona-based agtech startup HEMAV, which develops AI-powered predictive models to optimize crop forecasting and land management in agriculture, has raised €8 million in funding. The round was led by Future Food Fund, PureTerra Ventures, and Inclimo Climate Tech Fund.
- Founded in 2012 by Alex Gomar Manresa and Xavier Silva García, HEMAV develops the LAYERS platform, an AI-powered tool designed to improve land efficiency through crop prediction models.
- LAYERS helps farmers by providing predictive insights into crop performance, optimizing water usage, and supporting sustainable farming practices. It delivers actionable, customized data that improves yields, reduces costs, and enhances farm management.
- The platform integrates satellite, drone, and soil data to provide a comprehensive view of land development, allowing for accurate monitoring and forecasting across different conditions.
- The startup claims its platform improves water efficiency, cutting water usage by up to 15%. The models are regularly updated and trained on crops across 24 countries and millions of hectares each year.
Details of the deal
- The capital raised was led by Future Food Fund, a venture capital firm based in Utrecht that supports early-stage food and agri-tech companies, PureTerra Ventures, an Amsterdam-based VC focused on backing water companies with social impact, and Inclimo Climate Tech Fund, a VC based in Barcelona specializing in climate tech.
"We are thrilled to support HEMAV in its journey to redefine modern farming. HEMAV’s innovative platform is not only improving agricultural productivity but also tackling one of the planet's most pressing challenges—water scarcity. Their technology is a game- changer for sustainable farming, and we’re excited to help them scale," Claims Nic Pannekeet, Founder at PureTerra Ventures.
- The startup will use the €8 million in funding to scale its AI-powered platform, LAYERS, expanding its global reach and improving its technology.
