French startup Constellation Technologies & Operations, which focuses on deploying a disruptive constellation of telecommunications satellites for high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity in underserved areas, has raised €9.3 million in a seed round.
- Founded in 2022 by Charles Delfieux, Constellation Technologies & Operations is a startup dedicated to deploying a disruptive constellation of telecommunications satellites that empower telecom operators to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity from space.
- The company's innovative approach places telecom operators at the center of the value chain, enabling universal internet access in underserved areas where terrestrial networks are unavailable.
- Constellation Technologies & Operations distinguishes itself through two key technological innovations: deploying satellites in Very Low Earth Orbit for minimal latency and sustainable space usage, and repurposing terrestrial 5G spectrum for space-based communication.
Details of the deal
- The seed round was led by Expansion Venture Capital, which invests in European New Space and New Air Mobility startups, focusing on funding rounds from pre-seed to Series B. The round also included participation from the French Tech Seed fund, managed by Bpifrance on behalf of the French government as part of the France 2030 plan.
“Constellation Technologies & Operations represents a unique opportunity to support disruptive innovation in space connectivity infrastructure. Their approach ensures that telecom operators can fully participate in this new market while addressing the environmental challenges facing the space sector," Claims Investor Charles Beigbeder, Co-Founder of Expansion.
- The startup plans to use the funds for end-to-end testing of its space-based internet services, including orbiting payload and ground station prototypes. The funding will also support engineering studies for its first two satellites, set to launch by the end of 2026.
- Additionally, the startup aims to mass-produce satellites and user terminals, with a phased rollout of its connectivity service to achieve global coverage by the end of the decade.
“We are thrilled to have secured this funding, which will allow us to continue developing our constellation and help telecom operators unlock the enormous potential of space-based connectivity. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide and provide universal internet access, empowering telecom operators to serve customers even in the most remote areas," CEO and founder of Constellation Technologies & Operations, Charles Delfieux, stated.
