German observability tool Dash0 raises $9.5M seed round led by Accel

Solingen-based OpenTelemetry-native observability tool Dash0, designed to simplify monitoring with an open, developer-friendly platform for actionable insights, has raised $9.5 million in a seed funding round led by Accel, with additional support from Dig Ventures and angel investors.

  • Founded in 2023 by Mirko Novakovic, Ben Blackmore, Miel Donkers, Marcel Birkner, and Michele Mancioppi, Dash0 develops an OpenTelemetry-native observability platform designed to simplify developers' monitoring.
  • Dash0 provides an easy-to-install platform with customizable dashboards, real-time visualization, and Slack, email, and webhook integrations, enabling developers to monitor and resolve issues.
  • The startup's OpenTelemetry-native design uses only standardized, vendor-neutral metrics, keeping costs clear and predictable. Customers are charged solely based on data volume, allowing full control over observability expenses.
  •  With SOC 2 Type 2 certification and GDPR compliance, Dash0 ensures strong data security and privacy, making it easy for developers to gain insights within a trusted, cost-efficient framework.

Details of the deal

  • The seed round was led by Accel, a global venture capital firm that invests in startups. To date, Accel has backed 200 startups across 20 countries in Europe, including notable companies such as BlaBlaCar, Doctolib, Vinted, UiPath, Monzo, and GoCardless.

"By building the first OpenTelemetry-native observability tool, the company is committed to developing truly innovative software that can challenge legacy vendors by simplifying this crucial process for businesses everywhere. Accel partnered with Mirko on his journey with Instana and we’re delighted to be working with him again as he builds Dash0," Claims Harry Nelis, Partner at Accel.

  • The investment also received support from Dig Ventures, a London-based venture capital firm focused on infrastructure and fintech startups in Europe and the U.S. Additionally, angel investors such as Guy Podjarny and Guillermo Rauch participated in the round.
  • The funding will be utilized to speed up product development and expand Dash0's sales and marketing teams.

"For too long, developers have had no control over observability costs and have been unable to tap the potential offered by OpenTelemetry’s simple, vendor-neutral standards. We’re excited to announce this seed funding to make observability easy for every developer and to help them access the data they need to improve," founder and CEO of Dash0, Mirko Novakovic, commented.
