Polish EV charging startup ChargeEuropa secures funding to expand in new markets

Polish EV charging startup ChargeEuropa, a company specializing in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has secured funding to expand into new markets, further solidifying its position as a leading player in the CEE EV charging sector. The investment was led by Shift4Good, with participation from Simpact Ventures, ARC Capital Markets, MobilityFund, and Canard Ventures.

  • ChargeEuropa was founded in 2018 by Euan Wheatley and Matt Tymowski. The startup is at the forefront of integrating digital advertising with electric vehicle (EV) charging technology. Their innovative solution combines digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising with EV charging stations, creating a unique and efficient way to support the expanding electric vehicle market.
  • ChargeEuropa's EV chargers, designed and manufactured in Poznań, Poland, feature high-quality galvanized steel, premium sealants, and rigorously tested components.
  • ChargeEuropa has a pipeline of over 1,000 locations across Poland. Additionally, the company has partnered with Polenergia, a Polish private energy group, to power some of its chargers with green energy, furthering its commitment to a zero-emission future.

Details of the deal

  • The investment in ChargeEuropa was led by Shift4Good, a Paris-based venture capital firm specializing in mobility and the circular economy. Shift4Good focuses on Series A and Series B funding rounds, with investments typically ranging from $4 million to $20 million. Recently, the firm also backed Vapaus, a Finnish company offering employee bike benefits.

  • The fresh funding was also joined by Warsaw-based VC Simpact Ventures, Polish investment banking firm ARC Capital Markets, Hamburg-based VC MobilityFund, Canard Ventures, and angel investor Alex Kostecki.
  • With the capital raised, ChargeEuropa plans to expand its team and accelerate the development of its cutting-edge EV charging and Digital Out of Home (DOOH) technology. The company aims to deploy new chargers nationwide and extend its network into new markets.
