Milan's AI-powered cloud optimization startup Akamas raises $10M from United Ventures

Milan-based AI-powered cloud optimization startup Akamas has raised $10 million from United Ventures to expand into the North American market and accelerate product development, as Vestbee was told.

  • Founded in 2019 as a spin-off from Moviri, Akamas develops an AI-driven platform for optimizing cloud and application performance. Its technology automatically fine-tunes configurations across cloud and Kubernetes environments, improving cost efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Akamas optimizes application and infrastructure performance, unlike traditional tools that focus only on cost or infrastructure. It is used in industries such as retail, finance, and telecommunications to improve cloud management.

“Cloud optimization is no longer just about saving costs, It’s about enabling businesses to scale efficiently, deliver exceptional user experiences, and maintain reliability. At Akamas, we are redefining the possibilities for cloud and Kubernetes environments," CTO and co-founder of Akamas, Stefano Doni, commented in a press release.

  • Notable users of Akamas include Sisal, a European gaming company, and Sabre, a U.S.-based travel technology firm. The company has also received recognition from industry experts at Netflix and Dynatrace, as well as awards like the Unicredit StartLab Prize and the CIO Digital360 Award.

  • The round was backed by United Ventures, a Milan-based venture capital firm known for funding startups aiming to revolutionize industries through technology. United Ventures' portfolio includes startups like Moneyfarm, FaceIT, Fiscozen, and Musixmatch.

"We are proud to lead this round for Akamas, who are at the forefront of application-aware optimization technology. We’re excited to support their expansion into North America and their continued growth as they redefine how organizations optimize performance, reliability, and costs at scale," claims Fabio Pirovano, Partner at United Ventures.

  • The fresh capital will enable Akamas to expand into the US market, opening its first office in Boston and growing its team from 10 to 35 employees across engineering, sales, and marketing.
  • The investment will also accelerate product development, including launching Kubernetes Insight, a SaaS version of its platform, and integrations with AWS, Dynatrace, Datadog, Grafana Labs, and Google Cloud.
