Benefit Systems, a leading provider in the employee benefits market, has acquired Wellbee, a Polish platform specializing in psychotherapy and personal development. The deal also marks an exit for Welbee's investors Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder and WP2 Investments.
- Paweł Chrzan, a former Booksy R&D head, and Dariusz Milewski, a strategist with over a decade of experience working for major market players, including PwC, founded Wellbee in 2020 in response to the rising demand for psychotherapy, pushed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Wellbee's platform operates on B2C and B2B models, connecting users with over 300 verified experts in psychotherapy, psychiatry, coaching, and other mental health services.
- According to the company's data, tens of thousands of users, including individuals and corporate employees, have utilized Welbee's services. The platform partners with businesses such as Canon, EPAM, and E.ON to support employee wellbeing.
The details of the acquisition
- The company that bought Wellbee is Benefit Systems, which has been providing products to improve employee well-being and boost motivation for over 20 years. One of its most popular products is MultiSport, a system allowing users to visit over 4,000 selected sports facilities across Poland.
- The acquisition marked the exit of Polish fund Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder, Wellbee's main investor and co-founder. According to the team, the transaction, combined with previous share sales, delivered a 10x return on the invested capital.
- In September, Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder secured funding from PFR Venture as one of four recipients sharing a total of €47 million. The fund plans to invest in approximately 30 new projects soon, using this capital.
“We identified online psychotherapy as one of the most promising investment areas in the digital health sector. This market analysis allowed us to get ahead of a trend that is now obvious to the entire sector,” says Maciej Kosuń, Investment Manager at Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder.
- Polish firm WP2 Investments, which joined Wellbee's seed round back in 2022, also exited within the current deal.
- Wellbee will continue operating within Benefit Systems’ structures. The company plans to leverage opportunities from its cooperation with Poland’s employee benefits market leader, focusing on expanding its B2B segment.
