Helsinki-based Voima Ventures, a Nordic early-stage investor, has closed €100 million Fund III to support 25 to 30 science and deeptech startups across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
- Founded in 2019, Voima Ventures is a venture capital firm that invests in science-based and deep tech companies across the Nordics and Baltics. Over 70% of its portfolio companies stem from university spin-offs or research ecosystems, focusing on bridging the gap between research and commercial success.
- Voima Ventures' Fund III targets high-potential investments that deliver both financial returns and positive societal impact. Aligned with the EU’s SFDR as an Article 8 fund, the firm aims to expand its presence in the Nordics and Baltics while supporting early-stage university spinouts and startups.
- The fund plans to invest in 25-30 companies, with initial tickets ranging from €200,000 to €3 million, and the capacity for significant follow-on investments. Its focus areas include life sciences, energy, food, quantum technology, and advanced AI.
- To date, the fund has made eight investments, including ÄIO, which has secured €6.1 million to build a demo plant in Estonia for producing sustainable oils and fats from recycled biomass and agricultural residue.
“Our recent Impact Report highlights this commitment, showing that Voima Ventures Fund III achieves a net impact score of +48%, compared to the average -8% impact of US Fortune 500 companies. This means that every Euro we invest creates significant positive change, driven by more sustainable practices and transformative technologies," explains Inka Mero, Founder and Managing Partner of Voima Ventures.
- The fresh fund received backing from the European Investment Fund (EIF), Finnish Tesi and its KRR fund, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Saminvest, Nordea Life, and Elo Mutual Pension Insurance Company, and established foundations and family offices.
