Copenhagen-based deep tech startup Skycore Semiconductors has raised €5 million in seed funding, led by Amadeus APEX Technology Fund with participation from First Momentum, Mätch VC, and Balnord, as Vestbee was told. Including €2.5 million from previous funding and grants, Skycore has raised around €7.5 million to date.
- Founded in 2023 by Pere Llimós Muntal and Dennis Øland Larsen, Skycore Semiconductors develops advanced Power Integrated Circuit (IC) technology aimed at addressing the growing energy demands of next-generation AI data centers. The company designs silicon-validated ICs that enable 800V High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) architectures, allowing data center racks to handle power levels exceeding 200 kW efficiently.
- Skycore’s ICs operate by converting and managing electrical power at extremely high density within compact, flat form factors. This enables more efficient power distribution compared with traditional 54 VDC busbar systems, reducing energy losses and heat generation. The technology integrates power electronics and semiconductor design to deliver both high efficiency and scalability, making it suitable for AI compute workloads, high-performance servers, and energy storage systems.
- The firm’s approach involves creating modular power IC solutions that can be deployed across multiple systems, allowing data centers to scale without the limitations imposed by conventional copper busbars. The ICs regulate voltage, manage current, and optimize energy conversion dynamically, effectively removing the bottlenecks that constrain compute growth. Skycore also maintains a portfolio of six patent families, reflecting the proprietary methods behind its high-voltage, high-efficiency power management technology.
“Scaling today’s AI compute infrastructure requires a fundamental change in how data centers are powered, and 800V HVDC power architectures are the first step on that path. Our Power IC technology platform delivers power solutions with extreme power density and efficiency in flat, compact form factors, all essential to enable HVDC architectures. We design our solutions to be inherently scalable to meet the evolving demands of future power architectures. This funding enables us to accelerate our market entry from validated silicon to market-ready products, positioning Skycore as a key enabler of next-generation data center power delivery," explains Pere Llimós Muntal, CEO and co-founder of Skycore Semiconductors.
Details of the deal
- The €5 million funding will allow Skycore Semiconductors to move from technology validation to commercial launch. It will support team growth, enhance product development and manufacturing capabilities, expand the patent portfolio, and foster collaborations with strategic partners.
- The investment will also strengthen the company’s supply chain, positioning Skycore to meet the growing demands of next-generation AI data centers.
