Netherlands-based VC Golden Egg Check has closed a €5 million fund to support tech startups over the next three years. Several former tech entrepreneurs backed the oversubscribed fund.
- Founded in 2022 by Thomas Mensink, Golden Egg Check is a venture capital firm that invests in tech companies using a co-investment model, typically in collaboration with a specialized venture capitalist or a group of relevant angel investors.
- Since its inception, Golden Egg Check has built a portfolio of 22 Dutch tech startups, including Runnr.ai, Sirius, Haaven, and QDI Systems.
- With the new fund, GEC Capital I, Golden Egg Check plans to co-invest in early-stage companies, focusing on pre-seed and seed rounds, with around 30 to 35 investments.
“We generally invest at an early stage, in Pre-Seed and Seed, but in terms of sector we are broadly interested because we always co-invest with a specialist. With our 5 million euros, we can make 30 to 35 investments and still keep enough behind to continue investing in the most successful companies,” founder of Golden Egg Check and partner at GEC Capital, Gilles Meijer, stated.
- The initial fund was backed by tech entrepreneurs with diverse backgrounds in fintech, cybersecurity, e-commerce, AI, online marketplaces, and HR tech. These experts use their knowledge to evaluate startup quality and are committed to supporting our portfolio companies' growth.
“We will make sure that our second fund is ready immediately after that. We will flesh out that plan in the coming period. The next fund will be slightly larger but because we see that our co-investment strategy is working, we will continue to focus on that,” founder of Golden Egg Check and partner at GEC Capital, Gilles Meijer, stated.
