Swedish firm Wayout International AB has raised $2.7 million (SEK 26.6 million) in an oversubscribed Series A extension, bringing in both existing shareholders and new strategic investors with industry expertise as it looks to move from development to commercial deployment.
- Founded in 2018 by Ulf Stenerhag, Wayout is building a distributed drinking water infrastructure platform designed to produce safe drinking water locally from a range of sources.
- The system combines purification technology, controlled mineralisation, reusable logistics, smart dispensing units, and remote digital monitoring into a modular infrastructure stack.
- The company is pitching the platform as an alternative to centralized water supply and bottled water distribution, targeting challenges such as water stress, aging infrastructure, high transport costs, single-use plastic waste, and carbon emissions.
- Wayout says it is now approaching its first commercial orders, with a growing pipeline across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
- The company has also recently strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of former Nestlé Waters executive Matthias Riehle as Working Chairman, a move aimed at supporting its next phase of global expansion.
Details of the deal
- The new funding will be used to execute early commercial deployments, industrialize the platform, expand partnerships, and accelerate international market entry as Wayout transitions from pilot projects to scaled rollout.
"This financing marks an important milestone for Wayout. We are moving from proving the technology to deploying it at scale. The strong support from both existing and new investors reflects growing confidence in our vision and in the market opportunity ahead," explains Ulf Stenerhag, CEO and Founder of Wayout International.
