Pisa-based GEVI, which builds AI-powered adaptive wind turbines, has raised €2.7 million in a seed round led by 360 Capital and CDP Venture Capital to expand across European markets.
- Launched in 2022 by Emanuele Luzzati, Edoardo Simonelli, and Soufiane Essakhi, GEVI develops AI-powered vertical-axis wind turbines for modular, distributed energy generation.
- The turbines use active blade control, proprietary AI algorithms, and patented geometries to adapt in real time to varying wind conditions, including low-wind urban and rooftop environments.
- The system operates across four phases: initiating rotation at 1–4 m/s, maximizing power extraction at 3–11 m/s, managing structural loads at 9–20 m/s, and automatically aligning blades above 18 m/s for safety.
- Producing 5 kW nominal output, the turbines are suitable for households or local micro-grids. The AI continuously analyzes wind data and fluid-dynamics models, adjusting blade pitch every hundredth of a second to optimize energy, reduce loads by up to 80%, and maintain low noise.
- Designed for rapid installation without heavy machinery, GEVI turbines require minimal maintenance and provide remote real-time monitoring. Their compact form factor captures wind efficiently across urban, industrial, and rural sites, complementing other renewable sources such as solar.
Details of the deal
- The seed round was led by 360 Capital and CDP Venture Capital, which invested through the Acceleratori Fund, MiSE Co-Investment Fund, and ToscanaNext Fund, with participation from NextSTEP One.
- The €2.7 million seed funding will allow GEVI to transform its AI-powered vertical-axis turbines into a commercially viable and scalable product, support industrial production, enhance the AI control system, and introduce new turbine models for diverse applications.
- It will also accelerate the company’s expansion into European markets and strengthen the team to drive international growth, delivering modular, low-noise micro-wind solutions to urban, industrial, and rural environments.
Thanks to the trust of our investors, we will be able to give strength to a radical idea: turbines that learn from the wind and interact with nature, transforming into energy what was previously dispersed," explains Emanuele Luzzati, co-founder and CEO at GEVI.
