UK's energytech firm Boldr secures $5M to build a distributed energy network

London-based energy management startup Boldr has raised $5 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Unconventional Ventures, with participation from Ada Ventures, Tetard Ventures, Davidovs Venture Collective,

  • Founded by Madi Ablyazov, Toma P, and Matheus Marotzke, Boldr develops an energy management platform that connects residential energy equipment, initially focusing on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Its technology enables connected equipment such as HVAC systems, batteries, EV chargers, and solar installations to adjust energy consumption and provide flexible capacity to the power grid.
  • Rather than selling directly to homeowners, Boldr works with HVAC contractors, who install and maintain the equipment, using their existing networks to deploy its technology and manage connected systems throughout their lifecycle.
  • The company has secured distribution partnerships with HVAC brands and supply houses, including Daikin and Bosch-owned Source 1, giving it access to contractor networks across the US.

Details of the deal

  • The fresh round was also backed by Roxbury Asset Management, Inclimo Climate Tech Fund, Prosegur, Techstars, S20 Fund, and strategic investors from the North American HVAC industry.
  • The funding will support Boldr’s expansion beyond ductless HVAC controls into residential and light-commercial central HVAC systems, while accelerating product development and growing its contractor partnerships and distribution network across North America.
  • Boldr also plans to extend its platform beyond HVAC to batteries, EV chargers, and solar systems, bringing distributed residential energy assets together to help manage electricity demand and provide greater flexibility to the power grid.
