2150 launches €210M fund to back climate tech transforming cities

Venture capital firm 2150 has announced the lauch of its second fund, raising €210 million to invest in startups accelerating the decarbonisation and transformation of cities.

  • The fund was raised from a group of institutional investors and family offices, including Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker, Church Pension Group, the Danish sovereign fund EIFO, Carbon Equity’s fund-of-funds, Novo Holdings, Islandbridge Capital, Security Trading Oy, and Viessmann Generations Group. With this new vehicle, 2150’s total assets under management have reached around €500 million. According to the firm, the fund brings together 34 limited partners.
  • So far, 2150 has made seven investments from the new fund. These include AtmosZero, which develops industrial heat pumps; GetMobil, focused on electronic waste recycling; Metycle, a marketplace for scrap and recycled metals; and MissionZero, a company working on direct air capture technologies. Three additional portfolio companies have not yet been publicly disclosed.
  • The firm plans to build a portfolio of around 20 companies for its second fund. Typical initial investment tickets are expected to be in the range of €5–6 million. The strategy is primarily focused on Series A rounds, with around half of the capital reserved for follow-on investments.
  • In addition to core climate and urban infrastructure themes, 2150 is increasingly interested in areas such as data centres and industrial automation, which are being accelerated by the growth of artificial intelligence. The firm views automation and AI not only as tools for improving energy efficiency, but also as enablers of broader societal impact, particularly in the context of Europe’s ageing population and the need to sustain productivity and economic growth.
  • According to the firm, its existing portfolio demonstrates that environmental and social impact can be combined with commercial performance. Last year, 2150-backed companies collectively reduced emissions by around one megaton, highlighting the potential of climate technologies to deliver measurable results at scale.
