Brno-based spacetech startup ZAITRA, which develops AI technology for smarter in-orbit data processing to optimize space operations and reduce reliance on Earth-based systems, has secured €1.7 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Sunfish Partners.
- Founded in 2020 by Marek Marusin, Martin Javorka, and Rado Pitonak, ZAITRA develops AI technology for smarter in-orbit data processing. The startup has been involved in key space missions, including Biomission19 on the ISS and SLAVIA, where it contributed onboard data processing solutions.
- ZAITRA specializes in onboard systems for optical Earth Observation missions. Its flagship product, SKAISEN, helps reduce costs by optimizing data handling, saving bandwidth, and prioritizing critical information. With a focus on innovation and mission autonomy, ZAITRA is driving more efficient and advanced space exploration.
- The startup has formed partnerships with notable firms, including TRL Space, ESA BIC, SPACEMANIC, SAB Aerospace, and the Brno Space Cluster.
Details of the deal
- The pre-seed round was led by Sunfish Partners, a Berlin- and Warsaw-based venture capital firm that invests in deep tech startups across Eastern Europe, with ticket sizes ranging from €250,000 to €500,000. In August, the firm launched its Sunfish CEE II fund to invest in startups across the CEE region.

- The round also received support from Czech Founders VC and angel investor Jan Široký, former CTO of Mews, who contributed €700,000. Additionally, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TAČR) also participated in the funding round.
