Paris-based tech startup Voodoo has acquired BeReal for €500 million to assist with infrastructure, user acquisition, product strategy, and developing additional features.
About BeReal
- Founded in 2019 by Alexis Barreyat, BeReal develops a social networking app that connects close friends by sharing real moments. Users receive daily push notifications to post photos that will disappear after 24 hours with close friends.
- To date, BeReal has around 40 million active users, with half of its users posting about six days a week. It is one of the most popular social networks in its three key markets: the USA, Japan, and France.
About Voodoo
- Co-founded in 2013 by Alexandre Yazdi and Laurent Ritter, Voodoo is a tech company that publishes and builds mobile apps and games such as Helix Jump, Mob Control, Block Jam 3D, and the social network Wizz.
- With nine offices worldwide, Voodoo employs a team of 800 and has 150 million active users and 7 billion downloads.
Details of the deal
- Aymeric Roffé, the CEO of Voodoo's social media app Wizz, will become the CEO of BeReal and lead the product. Barreyat will stay involved in the short term, working with Roffé and Voodoo’s management to ensure a smooth integration and unlock BeReal’s growth potential before moving on to new projects.
