London's VC Volution launches $100M fund to invest in British scaleups

London-based VC firm Volution has launched a $100 million fund in partnership with Japanese SBI Investment Co.  It aims to invest in British fintech, AI, and SaaS scaleups.

  • Launched in 2021, Volution is a venture capital firm focused on backing companies that use emerging technologies like AI, machine learning, and blockchain to tackle productivity challenges in capital markets and enterprise solutions.
  • The firm invests in post-Series A companies, providing capital and operational support to help them scale to Series B and beyond.
  • Volution’s first fund has achieved 300% average revenue growth, delivered three successful exits, and includes Zopa Bank, a notable unicorn, in its portfolio.

"We have overfocused on unlocking cash at the very early stage through various tax efficient investment schemes but the money tends to evaporate post Series A. Companies get sold, fold or become walking zombies. Investment at the inflection point of international growth is critical for the tech company and offers the most significant returns for LPs," explains James Codling, Managing Partner at Volution.

  • The new $100 million fund is designed to support businesses with at least £5 million in ARR that need additional capital to scale internationally.
  • Focusing on sectors such as fintech and AI, Volution provides the financial backing and operational expertise needed to help companies expand globally.
  • Previous companies Volution has backed include Signal AI, Flagstone, Cognism, and Zopa Bank.
  • The firm also promotes responsible business practices through its ESG initiatives, including the Carbon Carry program, which encourages companies to adopt eco-friendly practices and offset their carbon emissions.
