VC & Startup weekly news from CEE, January 13-19, 2024

Notable funding rounds across the EU:

  • Spanish fitness technology platform Harbiz has secured €5 million from Octopus Ventures, with participation from JME Ventures, Athos Capital, and Enzo Ventures.
  • French smart data platform Heex Technologies has raised  €6 million from SHIFT Invest, Karista, and Techstars, with part of the funds provided in the form of a loan from BPI France.
  • Groningen-based deeptech startup QDI systems has raised €5 million in a Series A round. The round was led by the Northern Netherlands’ investment and development agency NOM, existing investors Carduso Capital, RuG Ventures, and Maki.vc participated.
  • Berlin-based fintech startup Pliant has raised €8 in funding to its Series A round, bringing the total to €33 million. This time, Molten Ventures joins existing investors SBI Investment, Alstin Capital, and Motive Ventures.
  • Belgian-French biotech company PDC*line Pharma has raised €8.1 million for a project that focuses on creating PDC*neo+, a personalized therapeutic vaccine for colorectal cancer.
  • Recraft, London-based AI graphic design generator, has secured $12 million from Khosla Ventures and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman.
  • French enterprise-grade staking platform Kiln has raised $17 million in funding led by 1kx, with participation from Crypto.com, IOSG, Wintermute Ventures, KXVC and LBank. Existing investors Kraken Ventures, GSR, and Avon Ventures also joined the round.
  • Trojan Energy, a developer of charging technology that facilitates the transition to electric vehicles in the UK, has secures  £26 million from BGF and the Scottish National Investment Bank.
  • Stockholm-based product traceability and compliance company TrusTrace has secured $24 million growth investment led by Circularity Capital. Existing investors Industrifonden and Fairpoint Capital participated in the round.
  • Dutch BNPL fintech Billink has raised €29.5 million from the German Varengold Bank.
  • French fast-charging EV network Electra announced am equity fundraising of €304 million. The Dutch pension fund service provider, PGGM, leads this funding round,  Bpifrance, Eurazeo, RIVE Private Investment, the SNCF group, and Serena joined.

     

CEE startup funding rounds & acquisitions:

  • Slovakian CloudTalk, an AI-powered calling solution and call center software for businesses, has closed a $28 million Series B round. The funding was co-led by KPN Ventures and Lead Ventures.
  • Bratislava-based startup Elv.ai has secured €500,000 from CB ESPRI Impact One fund. The fresh funds will support the company in its further European expansion.
  • Poland and UK-based loyalty solution for hospitality business Embargo has secured $850,000. The funding came from Opoka TFIR and business angels, including Pierre Decote, Group Chief Risk & Compliance Officer and Partner at Revolut, and Paweł Fornalski, founder of IAI Group.
  • Warsaw-based platform Gotiva has raised €1.11 million in a seed funding round led by SMOK Ventures Fund II. Movens Capital, together with Anton Gauffin, founder of Huuuge, participated.
  • Czech-founded Meiro has secured $3 million in an oversubscribed pre-Series A round led by Southeast Asian VC firm Wavemaker Partners, with participation from investors at Angel Central.
  • SKY ENGINE AI has secured a $7 million Series A investment led by Cogito Capital Partners. Edge VC, Taiwania Capital, Movens Capital, and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) also joined the round.
  • The US private equity firm Horizon Capital has announced its investment in Viseven, a global provider of marketing technology, catering to the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. The amount of the deal is undisclosed.
