Munich-based startup trail, the copilot for AI Governance, has raised €1.45 million in a pre-seed funding round to further develop its product and grow its workforce. The fresh funding was led by CapitalT, with participation from NP-Hard Ventures, Mozilla Ventures, and Common Magic.
- Founded in 2023 by Anna Spitznagel, Nikolaus Pinger, and Sven Hölzel, trail provides an easy method for implementing AI governance, enabling developers and businesses to develop reliable AI solutions.
- Trail brings compliance and technical teams together, bridging the knowledge and communication gap. It integrates with existing developer environments and governance workflows to automate governance, technical documentation, and transparency for AI companies, helping them prepare for the EU AI Act and ISO 42001 certifications without added overhead.

- The funding round was led by CapitalT, an Amsterdam-based venture capital firm specializing in software technology startups across the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Germany. The firm's portfolio includes 20 startups with 32 investments and successful exits, such as SquadPal, Basement App, and Seyo.
- The investment also included participation from NP-Hard Ventures, Mozilla Ventures, Common Magic, and various angel investors, such as Lisa Gradow, Benedikt Franke, Leon Szeli, and Tomislav Tomov.
- With the pre-seed round, trail plans to speed up its product development, expand its team, and strengthen trail's position as the go-to AI governance solution in Europe.
