UK-based VC Osney Capital raises £50M for its debut cybersecurity seed fund

Osney Capital has raised an oversubscribed £50 million fund to support early-stage cybersecurity startups across the UK. LPs include British Business Bank, IronGate Capital Advisors, and East X Ventures.

  • Founded in 2020 by Joshua Walter, Paul Wilkes, and Adam Cragg, Osney Capital is a UK-based venture capital firm focused exclusively on early-stage cyber startups.
  • The firm provides capital and deep sector expertise to help founders grow and scale. Its portfolio includes Sitehop, Mindgard, On Security, and Seedata.io.
  • The new fund aims to back 30 startups at the pre-seed and seed stages, with ticket sizes ranging from £250,000 to £2.5 million, along with follow-on investments in Series A rounds.
  • The fund is supported by key investors, including the British Business Bank through its Enterprise Capital Funds programme, and is accredited by the UK’s National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF).

“We are pleased to make this commitment to Osney Capital’s Fund I, which aligns with our objective of supporting promising companies to access the long-term investment they need to fulfil their growth potential. Cyber resilience lies at the heart of the UK’s role as a responsible cyber power," Managing Director and Co-Head of Funds at the British Business Bank, Christine Hockley, commented.

  • Additionally, the new fund also receives backing from institutional investors like IronGate Capital Advisors and East X Ventures, along with capital from exited UK cyber entrepreneurs and senior leaders in the cyber and national security sectors.

"With world-class talent and the scale to produce the next generation of industry leaders, we have a unique opportunity to compete on the global stage. Our mission with this fund is to identify and back the next wave of UK cyber founders — providing them with the specialist capital they need to build globally significant companies, products and technologies," explains Joshua Walter, Partner of Osney Capital.
