London-based nature intelligence company Natural Capital Research Limited (Natcap) has secured $10 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round.
- Natcap was founded in 2018 by Katherine Willis and Dieter Helm. The company is a spin-off of Oxford University that creates products that, similarly to how software platforms have improved carbon accounting and climate risk, assist corporations in managing nature risk, setting nature targets, and meeting emerging reporting requirements.
- Natcap’s customers include companies like equinor, WWF, Schroders, Tesco, Scottish Water, and many others.
- The investment came from André Hoffmann, a vice-chairman of Roche; David Crage, CEO of Refenitiv; Norinchukin Capital, a Japanese private equity firm; Yeo Ventures, The UK climate tech VC; Pelican AG, The UK VC for sustainable food systems. In addition, the round also includes follow-on investment from Oxford Science Enterprises.
“Their innovative and science-based approach to assessing nature risk and opportunity represents a pivotal step forward in our efforts to embed nature into how businesses make decisions. Through my role as a senior advisor to the Taskforce for Nature Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), I have witnessed firsthand the gap that Natcap fills: helping businesses measure nature risk and opportunity at scale,” said André Hoffmann, Vice-Chairman, Roche Holding AG.
- The funding will help Natcap scale its nature tech product, as well as accelerate the company's rapid growth.
