Irish gaming startup MixRift secures $1.6M to create mixed reality content

Dublin-based gaming startup MixRift has secured $1.6 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment was co-led by Outsized Ventures and Underline Ventures, with participation from SOSV and angel investors.

  • Founded in 2024 by Bobby Voicu, David Pripas, and Andrei Vaduva, MixRift is a leading gaming studio specializing in mixed reality. The startup aims to create immersive, engaging gaming experiences that bridge the gap between the virtual and real worlds.
  • According to the startup, the adoption of mixed reality received a significant boost with the launch of Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro. However, the market still lacks sufficient mixed reality content. MixRift believes it can contribute to the development of this niche.

“We’re at the very beginning of what mixed reality could do for gamers. We know there is a huge untapped market, and our founding team knows what it takes to create the games that hook those players in. This puts us in a unique position to capitalise on the opportunity," CEO at MixRift, Bobby Voicu, commented.

  • To date, the startup has released 2 games. Fractured, a mixed reality 3D puzzle experience, and Hell Horde, which immerses gamers in a heart-pounding mixed reality experience where their room becomes the battleground, are both available on the Meta Quest store. Additionally, Fractured is also available on the App Store for Apple Vision Pro.
  • The fresh funding was co-led by London-based VC Outsized Ventures and Underline Ventures, a Bucharest-based venture capital firm that supports Eastern European founders building high-growth startups.
  • SOSV, a global venture capital firm managing $1.5 billion in assets with a portfolio of 1,000 startups, participated in the round. Additionally, business angels Andrei Bogdan Boghiu and Vlad Andries also contributed.

“MixRift’s founding team has deep knowledge and experience, positioning the company to take advantage of both the demand from players and the growing interest in MR. We are pleased to be backing the team as MixRift grows," General Partner at Outsized Ventures, Lomax Ward, stated.

  • MixRift plans to use the capital raised for ongoing development and release of more titles in 2024, prioritizing game mechanics to identify audience preferences.
