Sofia-based company LAM’ON creates bio-based and compostable thermal laminating films that protect printed materials without harming the planet. In December, it raised €500,000 in a pre-seed funding.
- Founded in 2018 by Gergana Stancheva, Angela Ivanova, and Philip Ublekov, LAM'ON manufactures bio-based and compostable thermal laminating films and packaging foils as sustainable alternatives to traditional plastic.
- Their products offer the same quality as petroleum-based materials but with less environmental impact, serving industries like fresh produce, cosmetics, fashion, and logistics.
- The startup provides three environmentally friendly products:
- LAM’ON: A bio-based, compostable thermal laminating film that gives printed materials a professional look while being fully compostable at the end of its life.
- PACK’ON Classic: A clear, eco-conscious packaging foil for retail products, offering the same clarity as traditional plastic but with a lower environmental impact.
- PACK’ON Shrink: A sustainable substitute for conventional shrink wrap, designed to hold multipacks together while minimizing plastic waste.
Details of the deal
- The funding round was backed by Eleven Ventures, a Sofia-based venture capital firm that focuses on early-stage investments, typically ranging from €250,000 to €1 million, with the possibility of follow-on funding up to €2.5 million. Grigoriy Ananiev, Managing Director at Citibank, also participated in the round.
"Six years of R&D and smart chemistry, they've cracked it. Their compostable films are giving brands exactly what they need to meet EU packaging regulations. The best part? The quality matches traditional plastic, so no compromises needed," Eleven Venture's team commented on LinkedIn.
- The investment will help the startup boost its visibility, increase marketing, and attract new customers in Europe’s food, beverage, apparel, home goods, and electronics packaging markets.
