UK foodtech startup Kirsty’s has secured £2 million to launch new food-to-go ranges and expand the team.
- Founded in 2009 by Kirsty Henshaw, Kirsty’s operates as the only allergen-free factory of its size in the UK, supplying healthy ready meals that are low in calories and free of allergens such as nuts, dairy, gluten, and wheat to major supermarkets across the country.

- The fresh investment came from a £660 million Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II, which is managed by Mercia Ventures. The fund aims to support startups across the north of England, providing loans ranging from £25,000 to £2 million and equity investments up to £5 million.
“As our population becomes more aware of what they consume, and with busy lives and more dual-income households, Kirsty’s is poised to truly lead the healthy convenience and allergen-free sectors. With strong relationships with all the major UK retailers and a roadmap of exciting new products, we are excited about the growth journey ahead,” Investment Director at Mercia Ventures, Chris Borrett, stated.
- With the £2 million, Kirsty’s plans to launch new food-to-go ranges and grow its team by adding 15 new positions in the next six months.
“Nothing beats fresh, home cooked food; however, with modern life busier than ever, we know that’s not always achievable, especially for those with allergies who have to prepare everything from scratch. Our success is a real testament to our hard-working team. This funding will enable us to take the business to a new level and fulfil its true potential,” founder of Kirsty’s, Kirsty Henshaw, commented.
