Espoo-based eyewear startup IXI, which is developing autofocus glasses powered by real-time eye-tracking and dynamic lens technology, has raised $36.5 million in a Series A funding round. Investors include Plural, Tesi, Heartcore, FOV Ventures, byFounders, and Eurazeo.
- Launched in 2021 by Niko Eiden and Ville Miettinen, IXI develops adaptive eyewear that uses real-time eye-tracking and dynamic lenses to automatically adjust focus.
- The glasses detect eye convergence, the inward movement of the eyes when focusing on nearby objects, to calculate viewing distance and adjust the lens power accordingly.
- The firm integrates low-power infrared sensors directly into the lenses, minimizing energy consumption and bulk. The result is automatic, real-time focus adjustment in a regular-looking pair of glasses designed to improve vision at any distance.
Details of the deal
- The Series A round saw support from Plural, Tesi, byFounders, Heartcore Capital, Eurazeo, Maki.vc, First Fellow Partners, Amazon, firstminute capital, Illusian Founder Office, Bragiel Brothers, FOV Ventures, and Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company.
- The new funding will help IXI develop its Adaptive Eyewear, start commercial operations, and get the product to customers. They will use the money to refine their technology, show more prototypes, and scale production to bring the eyewear to market.
“These glasses represent the future of optical science, with a timeless silhouette. Backed by investors who see the scale of this opportunity, we’re ready to redefine what eyewear can be," claims Niko Eiden, co-founder and CEO of IXI.
