Paris-based deeptech firm Hummink, which develops micro-printing technology to repair chips and displays, has secured $20 million in a funding round co-led by KBC Focus Fund, Cap Horn, and Bpifrance to expand deployment of its patented High-Precision Capillary Printing (HPCaP) technology, as Vestbee was informed.
- Launched in 2020 as a spin-off from the École Normale Supérieure – PSL and the CNRS by Amin M’Barki and Pascal Boncenne, Hummink develops High-Precision Capillary Printing (HPCaP) technology for semiconductor and advanced display manufacturing.
- The technology enables manufacturers to repair, functionalize, and modify components at the sub-micron scale, addressing microscopic defects that can otherwise cause significant yield losses.
- HPCaP works like a microscopic printing system, depositing conductive or functional materials with high accuracy directly onto chips, interconnects, or display components.
- The process is compatible with a wide range of substrates and can integrate into existing production lines, allowing real-time defect repair, reduced material waste, and improved manufacturing yields. Hummink’s systems are used both in R&D laboratories and in industrial qualification programs with major manufacturers.
Details of the deal
- The fresh round was led by KBC Focus Fund, Cap Horn, and Bpifrance, with support from Elaia Partners, Sensinnovat, Beeyond, and the European Innovation Council Fund.
“Hummink stands out as an exceptional deeptech company that bridges academic excellence with industrial relevance. We’re proud to support Hummink’s journey from lab to fab, and believe their scalable business model and strong team position them to become a key enabler of next-generation electronics manufacturing,"claims Nuno Carvalho, Investment Director at KBC Focus Fund.
- The firm plans to use the fresh funding to accelerate the development of its industrial high-precision printing module and prepare the technology for full integration inside semiconductor and display fabs.
- The investment will also support the expansion of Hummink’s HPCaP deployment with major manufacturers, bolster its global operations, and enable the company to scale production of its printing modules and proprietary conductive inks as it doubles its workforce by 2026.
