San Francisco-based Headline closes $865M global growth fund to support later-stage tech startups

San Francisco-based Headline, a global venture capital firm investing across all stages and geographies to help startups scale internationally, has closed an $865 million global growth fund and launched a new team and strategy aimed at supporting later-stage tech startups to become more efficient while expanding their products, teams, and global reach.

  • Founded in 1998 by Christian Leybold, Andreas Haug, Mathias Schilling, Thomas Gieselmann, Jan Büttner, and Akio Tanaka, Headline is a venture capital firm with offices in San Francisco, Berlin, Paris, London, São Paulo, Taipei, and Tokyo.
  • The firm invests between $1 million and $50 million in companies worldwide, leading funding rounds at all stages. Headline's portfolio features prominent companies like Sonos, The RealReal, Creditas, Sorare, Pismo, AppFolio, goPuff, Acorns, Farfetch, Segment, Bumble, and Yeahka.

Details of the fund

  • The Growth Fund’s new team aims to support companies at Series B and above with a strategy called "Grassroots Growth," which is based on two key pillars:
  1. The first pillar highlights founders who are dedicated to making a meaningful impact. With a global perspective, they leverage diverse cultures to drive their success, demonstrating responsibility and integrity along the way.
  2. The second pillar emphasizes the firm’s collaborative, non-hierarchical approach. The team works together, prioritizing action and reliability. The firm invests in its people and cultivates its culture with the same care that top technology firms apply to product development: conscientiously, intentionally, and proactively.
  • The new team is diverse in gender, nationality, language, and socio-economic background, bringing extensive experience from Silicon Valley, Europe, and around the world, creating significant opportunities.

"We have a clear job to do. We're energized by our mission: invest in great entrepreneurs and support them to the ends of the earth. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress," Headline's team, commented.
