French startup Flagcat secures €2.5M led by Acurio Ventures

French startup Flagcat, known for developing next-gen webtoon franchises, has raised €2.5 million in funding. The round was led by Acurio Ventures, with support from Motier Ventures and The Players Fund.

  • Founded in 2023 by Jeff Biart, Quentin Malguy, and Rémi Juhé, Flagcat is a webtoon studio that creates action and fantasy series. The company focuses on improving the production process by using proprietary software that automates character coloring.
  • Flagcat's coloring software automates character coloring using pre-set designs, reducing manual work while maintaining high artistic quality. This tool enhances production efficiency, allowing faster turnaround times without compromising the visual standard of the webtoons.

Details of the deal

  • The funding round was led by Acurio Ventures, a Bilbao-based VC that recently raised €150 million for Acurio Ventures III. This fund aims to support around 50 early-stage European startups, primarily in seed and Series A rounds.
  • The investment also received support from London-based VC firm The Players Fund, and participation from existing investors such as Paris-based VC Motier Ventures, Seedcamp, and Society of Entertainment

"A huge round of applause for Jeff Biart, Quentin Malguy, Rémi Juhé and the entire team for what you have achieved so far! We are super proud to have supported you since day 1 and are excited to renew our commitment today," Motier Ventures' team, commented on LinkedIn.

  • The funds will help Flagcat grow its team of 20+ artists and release six new series worldwide this year, including webtoons, mangas, and animes.
