Finnish material startup Fiberdom has raised €3.5 million in funding to accelerate the development and scaling of its patented technology and its high-performance, 100% plastic-free material. Investors include Heino Group and Nordic Foodtech VC.
- Founded in 2019, Fiberdom is focused on developing sustainable materials from FSC-certified wood fibers. The company has developed patented technology that transforms market pulp and paperboard into a 100% plastic-free material.
- Fiberdom produces a strong, formable, recyclable, and home-compostable material that serves as an alternative to plastic. Their technology is helping reduce plastic usage across industries such as food packaging, cutlery, and furniture, contributing to the transition toward a circular economy.
"We've proven our technology works commercially, and now we're ready to transform entire product categories through strategic partnerships with forward-thinking companies," explains Järvenpää concludes, General Manager at Fiberdom.
Details of the deal
- The investment was backed by Helsinki-based firm Heino Group, Nordic Foodtech VC, a Helsinki-based VC that supports food tech companies across the Nordics and Baltics, and Holdix Oy, alongside a €600,000 grant from Business Finland.
"Fiberdom’s technology addresses all four critical corners of a winning solution: functionality, scalability, sustainability, and recyclability. We believe the cutlery is a great starting point for much broader innovation in plastic-free products,” says Pekka Siivonen-Uotila, partner at Nordic Foodtech VC.
- Fiberdom will use the €3.5 million to improve its technology, scale production, and expand its team to support growth.
