Berlin-based healthtech startup family.cards has raised €1.2 million in a seed round to fuel its expansion across Germany and Europe. The round was led by Brandenburg Kapital, Osnabrück Healthcare Accelerator (OHA), and Healthcare 7 Ventures.
- Founded in 2022 by Teo Ortega and Simon Hafner, family.cards creates simple, physical cards designed for seniors with hearing, visual, motor, or cognitive challenges. These cards make it easy to access essential digital services like health, safety, and communication by turning any TV into a senior-friendly hub.
- The system operates with a wireless card reader, and the setup is quick and simple. Users just connect the TV with an HDMI cable, download the family app, and the card reader automatically connects.
- Family.cards provides easy access to video calls, music, audiobooks, family photos, movies, exercises, sports, news, and religious content, helping seniors stay connected, engaged, and entertained.
Details of the deal
- The seed round was led by Brandenburg Kapital GmbH, a venture capital firm with a portfolio of 185 companies, along with OHA, an Osnabrück-based accelerator for startups, developing healthcare solutions, and Healthcare 7 Ventures.
"We supported family.cards in our Healthcare Accelerator and were immediately impressed by the team and its product. The decision to invest was therefore an easy one for us," OHA Managing Director, Jan-Felix Simon, commented.
- The round also saw participation from Antler, a global venture capital firm that funds startups across six continents and has backed 400 European startups, as well as Birdhouse Ventures, based in Antwerpen.
- With the capital raised, family.cards aims to enhance its software, expand its workforce, integrate third-party apps into the family.cards card store, and broaden its operations in Germany and throughout Europe.
