Zurich-based startup embotech, which provides autonomous driving solutions for logistics and industrial automation, has raised €25 million in its Series B funding round to fuel its expansion across Europe. Emerald Technology Ventures, Sustainable Forward Capital, and RKKVC backed the round.
- Founded in 2013 by Alexander Domahidi and Juan Jerez, embotech develops autonomous driving solutions for industrial logistics, focusing on automated vehicle marshalling (AVM) and autonomous terminal tractors (ATT).
- Embotech’s technology optimizes vehicle and container movement in complex environments like car factories, ports, and logistics centres. Its AVM solution is used at BMW factories to guide vehicles through production autonomously, while its ATT solution transports containers autonomously in the port of Rotterdam.
- The startup claims its solutions enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in logistics by automating key processes, addressing the global driver shortage, and reducing CO2 emissions and operational costs.
Details of the deal
- The Series B round was led by Zurich-based venture capital firm Emerald Technology Ventures and Frankfurt-based Yttrium, which specializes in supporting B2B tech companies.
“Embotech’s offering is an ideal way for companies to accelerate their path to reliable autonomy. We are excited to support Embotech, a Swiss technology company leading the development of level 4 AV for logistics applications worldwide," Explains Mehran Zaker, Partner at Emerald and new Board member at Embotech.
- The round also received backing from RKKVC, a Warsaw-based family office VC that invests between €100,000 and €1 million in early-stage startups with initial traction or an MVP. Additional support came from BMW i Ventures, Nabtesco Technology Ventures, Sustainable Forward Capital Fund, and existing investors.
“We are particularly proud of our investment in Embotech, as the company has been pioneering automated vehicle marshalling as part of its successful partnership with the BMW Group since 2022,” commented Marcus Behrendt, Managing Partner at BMW i Ventures, in a press release.
- Embotech will use the fresh funds to expand its Autonomous Vehicle Marshalling (AVM) and Autonomous Terminal Tractor (ATT) solutions across Europe and into new markets in the US, Middle East, and Asia.
- The investment will also support rollouts at BMW factories and the port of Rotterdam, while driving innovation, global expansion, and technological development.
