Hamburg-based healthtech startup Elea AI secures €4M seed round

Hamburg-based healthtech startup Elea AI, an AI platform designed to optimize medical pathology, has raised €4 million in seed funding, led by Fly Ventures and Giant Ventures.

  • Founded in 2024 by Dr. Christoph Schröder and Dr. Sebastian Casu, Elea AI is a company focused on transforming the efficiency of pathology labs using artificial intelligence.
  • The AI-powered system integrates all aspects of the pathology workflow, automating tasks like speech-to-text transcription, report creation, and lab equipment control.
  • Elea’s system integrates seamlessly with lab infrastructure, reducing processing time from weeks to days. This allows staff to focus on diagnostics while ensuring secure patient data handling.

"Our system replaces outdated legacy infrastructures and brings deeply integrated AI assistance into everyday pathology workflows. The result? Faster diagnostics, streamlined documentation, and a seamless lab experience," Elea's team, commented on LinkedIn.

Details of the deal

  • The funding round was led by Fly Ventures, a Berlin-based VC that supports seed-stage European startups in enterprise and deeptech. Fly Ventures recently raised an oversubscribed €80 million Fund III in a single close.
  • The round also saw participation from Giant Ventures, a venture capital firm with operations in London, New York, California, Copenhagen, and Stockholm.
  • The startup will use the €4 million seed funding to grow its engineering team, improve its AI system, and expand its reach to more pathology labs. The funds will also help the startup scale its operations and explore new markets, particularly in the US.
