Finnish startup Distance Technologies, which has created the first glasses-free mixed reality solution that turns transparent surfaces into immersive 3D displays, has secured €10 million in a seed funding round led by Google Ventures (GV), with support from FOV Ventures and Maki.vc.
- Founded in 2024 by Jussi Makinen and Urho Konttori, Distance Technologies created the first glasses-free extended reality (XR) solution, primarily designed for the automotive and aerospace sectors.
- Distance Technologies transforms transparent surfaces into immersive 3D XR displays without the need for headsets. Their technology seamlessly blends digital content with the real world, revolutionizing how we experience extended reality and interact with technology.
- In July, the startup raised $2.7 million in pre-seed funding, co-led by Maki.vc and FOV Ventures, to develop its glasses-free extended reality app.

- San Francisco-based Google Ventures (GV) is a venture capital firm managing over $10 billion in assets and 400 active portfolio companies across North America and Europe, with offices in Cambridge, New York, and London. GV invests in various sectors, including life sciences, consumer products, enterprise technology, crypto, climate, and frontier technology.
