Czech Apify secures around $3M to develop its data extraction platform

Prague-based Apify has secured around $3 million in a funding round from a new investor J&T Ventures, with participation from a previous one, Reflex Capital.

  • Apify was launched in 2015 by Jakub Balada and Jan Čurn. The startup develops a web scraping and automation software that gathers structured data via any website. Providing developers with web automation tools, Apify supports them in creating, deploying, and publishing web scraping, data extraction. Moreover, the startup offers more than 1,600 ready-made Actors in Store, the cloud-based apps designed to be executed, shared, and integrated.
  • To date, Apify has more than 2,500 clients worldwide, including tech companies such as Accenture, Siemens, Intercom, Microsoft, T-Mobile, and Roche.

“Throughout our entire history, we only raised seed investments totaling $0.5M until 2019, and have been bootstrapping the company since then. Having to rely on our profit to grow taught us valuable lessons of frugality and efficiency. And I think we got really good at it: In 2023, we reached record revenue of $7.5 million and profit of $1 million, with our revenue now growing at a pace of 80% year over year,” founder and CEO of Apify, Jan Čurn, shared.

  • The funding came from Prague-based J&T Ventures, a venture capital firm that funds CEE and SEE startups at seed and series A with size tickets ranging from €500,000 to €2.5 million. The funding round also saw participation from the startup’s existing investor, Czech fund Reflex Capital
  • Apify plans to use the fresh capital mainly for marketing, product development, supporting the developer community's growth, and hiring more people for its engineering, product, and data teams.
