Vilnius-based defence tech startup Broswarm raises €800k for mine detection technology

Vilnius-based defence tech startup Broswarm, which enhances mine detection and demining operations, has secured €800,000 in funding from ScaleWolf to accelerate the development of its proprietary X-Ray Eagle sensor, as Vestbee was told.

  • Founded in 2023 by Ernestas Žvaigždinas, Karolis Žvaigždinas, and Mindaugas Talaikis, Broswarm is focused on improving how mines are detected and cleared. The startup uses cutting-edge technology, including advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and drones, to make demining faster, safer, and more effective.
  • Broswarm is developing the X-Ray Eagle, a sensor that uses advanced radio waves to create 3D images of buried objects. Mounted on drones, it can detect items up to 0.5 meters deep from higher altitudes than traditional methods, reducing false positives and delivering reliable visual data for quicker and more effective mine clearance.
  • The sensor technology, which earned Broswarm first place at the NATO challenge, is specifically designed to enhance safe demining efforts in Ukraine and other conflict-affected areas.

Details of the deal

  • The funding round saw support from Vilnius-based ScaleWolf VC, a venture capital firm that specializes in investing in technology startups, particularly those in the defense sector.

"Their X-Ray Eagle sensor technology will offer an unmatched advantage, positioning them well ahead in landmine detection. In addition, with this level of accuracy, Broswarm’s technology will not only be able to clear mines from secure areas, but also support troops on the ground to manoeuvre faster and more safely through landmine-infested front line areas," Managing Partner at ScaleWolf and former Vice Minister of Defense of Lithuania, Edvinas Skerza, commented in a press release.

  • With the capital raised, the startup plans to accelerate its research and development efforts, refine and patent the X-Ray Eagle technology, and produce a field-ready prototype for large-scale deployment, including conducting further field tests in the next 12 months.
