STAC Invest invests £1M in three female-led healthcare startups: Silver Lion Innovations, Seluna Ltd, and Smplicare

Glasgow-based STAC Invest connects investors with scalable, tech-driven startups by simplifying complexity and minimizing investment risks. The company has invested over £1 million in female-led healthcare startups Silver Lion Innovations, Seluna Ltd, and Smplicare.

  • STAC Invest, the investment arm of Scotland’s accelerator for smart and deep tech startups, supports early-stage companies with funding and an 18-month mentorship programme, helping reduce risks and prepare them to scale internationally. It has backed over 90 startups, created 292 jobs, and helped raise £32 million.
  • The company  has invested over £1 million in three female-led healthcare startups, including:

1. Silver Lion Innovations, co-founded by Ruth and Conor Crozier, developed EasyOver, a smart mattress topper that helps people with limited mobility turn safely and comfortably in bed, either independently or with minimal assistance from a carer.

“The investment and support from STAC have been absolutely invaluable. The 18-month STAC accelerator helped us refine our pitch, connect with the right partners, and gave practical support, from communications to hiring our first employee,” claims Ruth Crozier, co-founder of Silver Lion Innovations.

2. Seluna, founded by Dr. Scott Black and Dr. Yola Jones, is developing machine learning software to improve the diagnosis and prioritization of childhood sleep and respiratory disorders. The technology aims to replace outdated adult monitoring equipment and reduce the lengthy, labor-intensive diagnostic process in paediatric healthcare.

"With this funding, we can conduct real-world validation studies with our NHS partners and accelerate towards formal clinical trials. STAC’s investment will help bring our solution to market sooner, to improve paediatric diagnostics and reduce the strain on health services," co-founder of Seluna, Dr. Yola Jones, stated.

3. Smplicare, co-founded by Alexandra Reissig and Garrett Sprague, is developing fall prevention technology that helps older adults maintain independence while reducing the risk of falls, the leading cause of loss of independence in people over 65. The company’s innovative platform uses machine learning algorithms to predict fall risk with 85% accuracy.

“The investment in these three companies represents a significant step in our vision to establish thebeyond as an International Centre of Excellence in Finnieston, Glasgow, creating a super cluster of innovative smart technology companies that can compete globally," claims Angus Macfadyen, head of investment at STAC.

  • Applications for STAC’s next accelerator cohort are open until 18 August. Tech founders, investors, and industry partners can apply or find more information at stac.ac/apply-now/.
