Zurich-based firm Loft Dynamics, which makes virtual reality flight simulators for pilot training in helicopters and commercial aircraft, has secured $24 million in a Series B round led by The Friedkin Group.
- Launched in 2016 by Fabi Riesen, Loft Dynamics develops virtual reality flight simulation training devices (FSTDs) for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
- The company designs, manufactures, and operates VR simulators that replicate full-scale cockpits with six-degrees-of-freedom motion platforms, high-resolution 3D visuals, and pose tracking systems.
- These simulators provide pilots with realistic flight experiences, allowing them to train safely on standard procedures, emergency scenarios, and complex maneuvers.
- Loft Dynamics’ systems are qualified by both the FAA and EASA, enabling regulated pilot training. The simulators are significantly smaller and less costly than traditional full-flight simulators, and the company integrates cloud connectivity and AI-based performance tracking to support remote training and individualized feedback.
Details of the deal
- The Series B investors include The Friedkin Group, a privately held consortium of businesses and investments, along with Alaska Airlines, Craft Ventures, Sky Dayton, and UP. Partners.
- The fresh capital will allow Loft Dynamics to move into airline training, adding VR simulators for the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 while continuing to grow its helicopter programs.
"We’re expanding our airline offerings while continuing to grow our core helicopter business by building the world’s first fully integrated, cloud-connected training suite — a next-generation hardware and software system designed to address aviation and pilot training’s biggest challenges," Loft Dynamics' team, commented on Linkedin.
- It will also fund development of a cloud-based training system, a home kit for remote practice, and AI tools that track performance and provide tailored feedback.
