Polish biotech firm Proteine Resources raises around €12M to enhance pet nutrition

Polish firm Proteine Resources, which makes premium insect-based protein and bioactive compounds for pets and animals, has raised more funding, bringing its total capital in 2025 to nearly €12 million, as Vestbee was told.

  • Founded in 2018 by Konrad Włodarczyk and Bartłomiej Roszkowski, Proteine Resources specializes in insect-based protein and bioactive compounds for premium pet nutrition, veterinary supplements, animal feed, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
  • The company produces hypoallergenic protein comparable in quality to beef, supported by a patented technology platform and an AI-driven automation system that enables a fully autonomous factory with minimal staffing.
  • Their production model transforms mushroom industry by-products into high-value functional proteins, making the entire process zero-waste, energy-efficient, and carbon-negative. The modularity of the system allows decentralized, location-flexible manufacturing, supporting rapid global scalability.
  • In 2024, the firm secured €1.4 million in funding, led by SMOK Ventures with support from Bitspiration Booster VC. In 2025, the firm raised €9.5 million in funding to launch the world’s first autonomous insect-protein factory.

Details of the deal

  • The fresh investment saw backing from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator and Radix Ventures, an early-stage VC backing deep-tech innovations with global impact.
  • The fresh funding will be used to accelerate Proteine Resources’ technological and commercial expansion. The company will allocate the capital toward building the world’s first fully autonomous alternative-protein factory, expanding its pilot facility in the Mazowieckie region to increase production capacity tenfold to 100 tons annually, and advancing clinical research to validate the functional health benefits of its ingredients.
  • Additionally, the investment will support the development of new gut-health–oriented formulations, commercialization of its flagship EntoPro™ protein, and the company’s entry into key European markets.
