German startup simmetry.ai raises €330k to scale synthetic data platform for AI in agriculture and industry

Osnabrück-based simmetry.ai, which develops synthetic data for AI training, has raised €330,000 from NBank via the HTI accelerator programme to expand its dataset generation platform.

  • Founded in 2024 as a spin-off from the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) by Kai von Szadkowski, Anton Elmiger, and Prof. Dr. Stefan Stiene, simmetry.ai develops synthetic data to train AI models in agriculture, food production, and industrial applications.
  • The company produces photorealistic images, 3D models, and detailed annotations for tasks such as object detection, semantic segmentation, and 3D pose estimation.
  • Its platform simulates virtual environments and sensor setups to generate large-scale datasets under diverse conditions, allowing AI models to be trained and tested where real-world data is limited, with automated pipelines and a 3D asset library supporting scalable data generation.

Details of the deal

  • With the new €330,000 funding, simmetry.ai plans to expand its platform that produces photorealistic, fully annotated synthetic data for AI training. The goal is to make it easier and faster for developers to create robust computer vision models in industries where real-world data is limited or costly to collect.
  • The platform will continue to support tasks like semantic segmentation, object detection, and 3D pose estimation, helping improve AI performance across sectors such as agriculture, food production, and industrial applications.
