Helsinki-based startup DataCrunch secures €55M to build Europe’s AI hyperscaler

Finland's firm DataCrunch, which provides high-performance GPU cloud infrastructure for AI training and model inference, has secured €55 million in a Series A funding round to develop a Europe-based AI gigafactory.

  • Established in 2020 by Ruben Bryon, DataCrunch develops and operates high-performance AI cloud infrastructure, providing GPU-based compute for training and inference of machine learning models.
  • The company offers on-demand GPU instances, custom GPU clusters, and serverless model inference services, allowing researchers, enterprises, and educational institutions to access scalable compute resources quickly.
  • DataCrunch’s platform runs on dedicated NVIDIA GPUs, including B200 SXM6 and other high-end models, and is optimized for multi-GPU training, large-scale model inference, and high-performance computing.
  • Users can provision resources via a web dashboard or API, with machines pre-configured for AI workloads. All infrastructure is powered by renewable energy, and the platform maintains ISO27001 certification and GDPR compliance.

Details of the deal

  • The Series A round for DataCrunch was led by byFounders, Skaala, Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company, and Tesi, with participation from J12 Ventures and select angel investors.
  • A portion of the round included debt financing, led by Nordea and Armada Credit Partners, with additional participation from Danske Bank, Norion Bank, and LocalTapiola (LähiTapiola).
  • DataCrunch plans to use the fresh funding to expand its AI infrastructure, team, and service offerings. This includes deploying NVIDIA’s latest-generation GPU systems to scale its high-performance cloud platform for AI training and inference.

“This funding enables us to accelerate our vision of becoming Europe’s first AI cloud hyperscaler, providing enterprises with cutting-edge infrastructure that keeps their data secure, their operations compliant, and their environmental impact minimal," Founder and CEO of DataCrunch, Ruben Bryon, commented.

  • Additionally, the company aims to accelerate its vision of becoming Europe’s first AI cloud hyperscaler, support enterprises with secure and compliant AI compute, and develop an AI gigafactory in Latvia to provide large-scale, renewable-powered AI compute resources across the EU.
