Circular11 secures £2.4M to convert plastic waste into composite building materials

UK-based Circular11 has secured £2.4 million in funding led by Vectr7 Investment Partners LLP, with support from The FSE Group, investor networks, private investors, and an InnovateUK grant.

  • Founded in 2021 by Benjamin Gibbons and Connor Winter, Circular11 is a materials technology company focused on turning low-grade plastic waste into durable, low-carbon alternatives to timber.
  • The company sources plastic from commercial operators and community streams, including material that would otherwise be sent to landfill or incineration.
  • This waste is then shredded and chemically analysed to build a data profile, which is used to inform machine learning models that optimise how each waste stream is formulated into usable material.
  • After strength testing, the material is processed through extrusion to produce plastic lumber used in fencing, furniture, landscaping, and other construction applications, with full traceability of inputs and associated carbon impact.

Details of the deal

  • The new investment will allow Circular11 to expand production capacity and further develop its proprietary processing technology.
  • Over the next two years, the company aims to divert approximately 10,000 tonnes of low-quality plastic waste from incineration and landfill, transforming it into long-life construction materials and positioning its products as a sustainable alternative to traditional timber in a market facing growing supply constraints.
