BirdyChat lands €1.7M to redefine professional messaging across Europe

Riga-based startup BirdyChat has raised €1.7 million in a funding round aimed at expanding its professional messaging platform across Europe and accelerating product development, as Vestbee was told.

  • Founded in 2025 by Rolands Mesters and Martins Spilners, BirdyChat is building a messaging tool focused on external business communication, positioning itself between consumer chat apps and enterprise collaboration software.
  • The platform allows users to communicate using work email addresses rather than phone numbers, and supports one-to-one messaging, group chats, threaded conversations, file sharing, and community-style communication. It is designed to structure ongoing business discussions that typically take place across personal messaging apps, email, and ad hoc collaboration tools.
  • BirdyChat also integrates WhatsApp interoperability features for eligible users in the European Economic Area, enabling messages to be sent and received directly from within the platform under the EU’s Digital Markets Act requirements.
  • The company says its target users include professionals who regularly manage external communication with clients, partners, and project stakeholders, and who seek to separate work-related messaging from personal chat environments.

Details of the deal

  • The round was backed by DIG Ventures, Change Ventures, Tiny VC, FIRSTPICK, Lumo Capital, and Tesonet, alongside angel investors including Markus Villig and Charlie Songhurst.

“The world does need another chat app, one that is purpose-built for external professional communication and with enterprise requirements at heart. Digital Markets Act created an additional tailwind for this need, we are thrilled to be backing Rolands and Martins," explains Rytis Vitkauskas, General Partner at DIG Ventures.

  • BirdyChat plans to use the capital to scale its product, grow its user base, and expand access to its waitlist of more than 50,000 users across Europe.
