Biotope invests €700k in EveryCarbon and Wren Bioscience to advance sustainable materials and dairy testing

Ghent-based biotech incubator and early-stage investor biotope has invested €350,000 each in EveryCarbon and Wren Bioscience, backing the companies as they move their technologies toward commercial development, as Vestbee was informed.

  • EveryCarbon is developing high-performance shielding materials using a biomanufacturing platform that converts organic waste-derived feedstocks into chemical building blocks for engineered materials. Its first product, ECOne™, is focused on performance insulation for industrial applications.
  • Wren Bioscience, based in Denmark, is developing rapid diagnostic technology to help dairy producers detect thermoresistant bacteria in milk. Its semi-automatic system can deliver results in as little as two minutes, allowing producers to make faster decisions around milk safety and production cleaning.
  • The investment will support both companies in advancing their technologies toward commercial deployment. EveryCarbon will use the funding to validate ECOne™ for demanding industrial applications, deepen work with industry partners, and build the foundations for future commercial-scale production.

"These investments reflect what we believe biotechnology can achieve for planetary health. EveryCarbon and Wren Bioscience are tackling very different challenges, with very different technologies, yet both stood out for the same reasons: exceptional science, ambitious founders and the potential to create meaningful impact, benefitting our planet," explains Annick Verween, Head of biotope.

  • Wren Bioscience will use the investment to strengthen its intellectual property and regulatory strategy, expand early commercial engagement, and prepare for physical validation pilots planned for autumn 2026 and further pilots in 2027.
  • The investments are part of biotope’s strategy of backing science-driven companies translating university research into commercially viable technologies across areas including agrifood, sustainable materials, and climate technology.
  • To date, biotope’s portfolio companies have raised more than €40 million in funding.
