London-based foodtech firm Better Nature, which offers supercharged tempeh products that are high in protein, gut-friendly, and sustainably produced, has raised £1.1 million in funding from existing investors.
- Established in 2018 by Elin Roberts, Fabio Rinaldo, Chris Kong, and Ando (Driando) Ahnan-Winarno, Better Nature develops supercharged tempeh products, plant-based, protein-rich foods made from fermented whole soybeans.
- Inspired by the traditional Indonesian staple, the company harnesses fermentation to create clean-label alternatives to meat that are high in protein, packed with fibre and gut-friendly prebiotics, and made using only natural, sustainably sourced ingredients.
- Their products work as versatile, nutritious options in everyday meals and are designed to appeal to health-conscious, flexitarian consumers seeking natural, minimally processed protein sources.
- Better Nature is stocked in Tesco, Asda, and more than 1,300 stores across Germany, including REWE and Globus. The company has also expanded into Austria and plans to enter two additional markets this year.
Details of the deal
- The fresh round saw support from existing angel investors, who made up 70% of the round, along with new strategic angels.
- Better Nature will use the fresh capital to scale its sales and marketing efforts, expand product innovation, and accelerate international growth.
- The funding will also support the brand’s mission to offer high-protein, gut-friendly meat alternatives, tapping into growing consumer demand for natural, health-focused plant-based foods.
"We were driven by a simple mission: to make protein that’s better for people and the planet the easy choice. And 7 years on, the mission is exactly the same. With this round of funding, we are taking the fight to chicken! We are going to dethrone chicken as the king of protein," Better Nature's team, commented on LinkedIn.
